Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in your anus and lower rectum, similar to varicose veins. They are normal but can enlarge or develop issues that need medical attention.
External Hemorrhoids These are under the skin around your anus. When irritated, they can swell and form external hemorrhodial skin tags. When they develop a clot, they can cause a lump and extreme pain and bleeding. |
Excision of thrombosed external hemorrhoid This is an external hemorrhoid that has developed a clot. This causes a "marble" type lump in the anal area and is associated with significant pain. Sonoran Surgical has procedure rooms where these hemorrhoids can be excised in the office without expensive hospital or surgery center costs.
Excision of external hemorrhoidal skin tags These are small skin tags around the anus that form from swelling, trauma, hemorrhoids, pregnancy, etc. Small tags are common and generally asymptomatic. Larger tags can cause discomfort, itching, and swelling. Generally, these can be treated in the office in one of our procedure rooms. |
Internal Hemorrhoids These are dilated veins inside the anus. They can enlarge overtime and cause issues with bleeding, pressure/discomfort, and prolapse. They are graded on a scale based on their severity which aids in deciding management. |
Medical Management Generally, many hemorrhoids symptoms can be treated with conservative care including dietary intake and topical medications.
Elastic Band Ligation This is an office based procedure that is done routinely. With rubber band ligation, a small band is applied to the base of the hemorrhoid, stopping the blood supply to the hemorrhoidal tissue. The hemorrhoid will shrink after a few days with the tissue and band falling off during normal bowel movements. It involves a much lower risk of pain than surgical treatments of hemorrhoids, as well as a shorter recovery period (if any at all). The procedure is performed under direct vision with the latest equipment by a board certified surgeon providing improved results compared with other outpatient hemorrhodial treatment clinics.
Stapled hemorrhoidectomy Stapled hemorrhoidectomy, also known as PPH (procedure for prolapse and hemorrhoids), is a surgical procedure performed in the operating room under anesthesia that involves the removal of abnormally enlarged hemorrhoidal tissue, followed by the repositioning of the remaining hemorrhoidal tissue back to its normal anatomic position. It is a procedure that should be used for select patients with specific hemorrhodial issues.
Ligasure hemorrhoidectomy This is a modified version of the classic surgical hemorrhoidectomy that is performed in the operating room under anesthesia and involves removing the internal and often external hemorrhoids. It is effective for the higher grade hemorrhoids that can not be treated by other means. It is asscoiated with less pain and bleeding compared with. |
